About this event

This is part of the Saturdays with Rita Z series. These rides are geared specifically toward in-shape CC riders who like riding long distances with a group, but are tired of being dropped. It's my hope that participants more or less stay together, ending with an average of 12-13 mph. This is not a no-drop ride. But if you are comfortable with this pace, please join us.

If this is your first PPTC ride, I invite you to contact me in advance, so I can clue you in on what to expect. You've chosen a particularly tough route! (rzeidner@gmail.com)

ABOUT THE ROUTE: This week we'll work on hills, testing our mettle on the (hilly) first half of the Civil War Century. RWGPS shows this route has just under 4,000 feet of climbing. (My guess is that the final total will be closer to 5,000.) Usually we average about 13 mph, but I think this terrain will slow us down a bit.

We’ll start climbing almost immediately out of the gate, gaining more than 1,500 feet in the first eight miles. We’ll then climb some more. We’ll have it relatively easy between Miles 20 and 30 and then start our final climb. The good news is we end the ride with a nine mile downhill into Thurmont.

Around Mile 46, you'll be about a block from where you parked and you can call it quits. But the official ride (that I will do) tacks on a five mile loop beginning a block from the 46-mile finish. Those extra five miles aren't too hilly, but they're not flat.
