PPTC Lewes Weekend

Potomac Pedalers’ annual trek to Lewes, Delaware is scheduled for April 25-27, 2025. Lewes is a quaint beach town with lots of Dutch history. As usual we’ll stay at the Beacon Inn just blocks from the beach and downtown. Your registration fee includes two nights lodging, two breakfasts, one lunch, one dinner, one ice cream social, and happy hour snacks. Rides range in length from 0 (in case you don’t want to ride) to 65 miles. Two bike trails take you to/from Rehoboth beach plus Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge is due north and Cape Henlopen State Park is only two miles away.

PPTC member all-inclusive prices for the weekend are $360 for single occupancy and $255 per person for doubles ($510 double rate). The prices are the same for non-cycling spouses or guests. PPTC non-members can join by first signing up for a PPTC free one-month trial membership. Hotel rooms have two double beds, or a queen bed, or a king bed. All have refrigerators. The Beacon Motel does not allow pets and is non-smoking.

Harvest Hundred
September 21, 2025

After a short hiatus, we are pleased to announce that the Potomac Pedalers century is BACK. The Harvest Hundred will offer three route options – a full century, a metric century, and a 40-miler – that go through the bucolic countryside of Loudoun and Fauquier counties. Riders will start and end at the beautiful Barrel Oak Winery & Brewery, which will provide an oasis-like destination to relax and celebrate a good day of riding afterward, regardless of the weather. As with previous Pedaler premier fall rides, the fall century will be fully supported, with fully stocked rest stops, a SAG wagon, and bike repair/bike check at the start/finish.

This year, Potomac Pedalers will team up with Bikes for the World and your participation in the event will help BFW fulfill its mission of donating bicycles to communities throughout the U.S. and the world. More details to follow.

We can’t put on this event without the help of Potomac Pedalers members. It’s too soon to register but it would be a big help if you could fill out this short survey. Even if you aren’t going to the ride, please take the survey. Your confidential responses will be very helpful. St. Michaels Ride Weekend, 20-22 October 2023
Beautiful Maryland Eastern Shore Routes!

The St. Michael’s PPTC weekend Fall Finale is brought to you by the same PPTC ride Coordinators and Leader’s as our very successful Woodstock/Shenandoah Weekend. You can expect a variety of wonderfully scenic routes and fun opportunities to gather post ride.

We are hoping that this weekend will be a more relaxed biking experience where riders (PPTC Members) and non-riders can take in the beauty and rich history of the area.

What do you get with registration? Welcome Happy Hour on Friday, routes for 3 days of riding, ferry crossing ticket, a pre-dinner cruise on Saturday, and take along snacks for your ride.

Friday: We will offer several shorter routes for you to take on your way down or in town at Kent Island, St. Michael’s and Easton to allow registrants to drive down, get a ride in, check into their accommodations. Join us for the weekend kick off at Lowes Wharf for a happy hour of light appetizers and drinks. You will meet your trip leaders and other riders, get a briefing of the weekend, grab a bag of snacks for your weekend. They have a full menu so feel free to stay for dinner. Only Happy hour is covered in your Registration. You will also receive your Tickets for the Oxford/Bellevue Ferry and Saturday afternoon Boat Ride.

Saturday: Meet at Perry Cabin Park to start your day's ride, 710 Talbot Street St Michaels, MD. This day’s routes take you through and around Easton and a nice ride on the Oxford/Bellevue Ferry. Your registration includes the Ferry so make sure you have your tickets for the Oxford Ferry Boat Crossing Between Oxford & Bellevue Maryland. Join us in the town of St. Michaels: Patriot Cruises Narrated Historical Cruises - Patriot Cruises. After the Ferry you are on your own for dinner and tour around town.
Sunday: Meet at the Perry Cabin Park to start your rides for the last day of your weekend.

Shenandoah Weekend, 7-9 July 2023

Beautiful Shenandoah Valley Routes!

Participants will be responsible for reserving their own lodging. We suggest around the Woodstock, VA area where you can find hotels, B&Bs and other rentals.

We have a block of rooms at a discount at Holiday Inn Express, Woodstock, VA. (to reserve, please call 540-459-5000 and ask for Potomac Pedalers Special Rate) Reserve by June 7, cancellations only until June 16.

What do you get for registration?
• Friday night welcome party
• Saturday party and dinner at Swover Creek Brewery;
• take along snacks for the rides;
• 3 days of riding, new friends to make, beautiful scenery and a very good time!

Plans are being finalized now. Saturday and Sunday rides to start from a High School in Woodstock. This is rideable from several hotels. Route 11 chips and the Meems Bottom bridge, longtime favorite sites, will be on some of the routes.

As last year, a Friday ride will start at a point OTW and will give you time to ride, continue your drive, get showered and arrive at the welcome party. More details to come!

Lewes Delaware Weekend April 28-30, 2023

The popular, all-inclusive Lewes, Delaware weekend returns to the Springtime. For over 30 years the Beacon Inn has welcomed Potomac Pedalers to this coastal town. Join us as we cycle this bike-friendly state during the spring blooming season. Lewes is a small, picturesque, and historic town near Rehoboth Beach and was the first state to ratify the Constitution. This weekend attracts returning Pedalers as well as nonmember cyclists from the surrounding area. Attendance is limited to 75 people so sign up early to reserve your spot. Registration will be online only via the PPTC website.

Rides range in length from 10 to 65+ miles and are flat, although there are usually headwinds at the beach. Many rides visit nearby wildlife refuges, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, and remote beaches. We also have rides that stay east of Route 1 and tour Lewes or travel to Rehoboth Beach via bike paths. Depending on the ride you choose, some begin at the Beacon Inn and some have a remote start after a short drive to parking areas west of Route 1.

Leesburg VA Spring Picnic, April 23, 2023

Kick off the Spring with a sunny morning launch of a day of riding and socializing, hosted by PPTC's Terre Simpson and Butch Counts, from the Fox Ridge Park Pavilion (2 blocks from familiar Loudoun County High School ride start) in Leesburg, VA. Let’s hope for that sunny day!

Rides: Rides are open to everyone and consist of 20-30-44-58 mile options, with leaders for all pace categories. All rides start at Fox Ridge Pavilion, with leaders rolling out from 10:00am-ish (see Calendar entry for final ride schedule details and route files). Ride leaders are still needed for a 34-mile (mostly) gravel route, and if you are able to volunteer to lead on this, please contact the event hosts.

Picnic: PPTC will provide pizza, salad, drinks, etc., and always welcomes potluck additions. Bathrooms will be open by 9:30am.

PPTC hosted the following annual events pre-COVID 19, and and is gradually getting these back on the calendar:

Virtual Back Yards Century. In 2020, PPTC held a virtual two-week long virtual Back Yards Century Ride that included a scavenger hunt, group virtual rides, ride challenge, and a virtual social event.

Back Roads Century. The Back Roads Century is held in September in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Located just across the bridge from the Antietam Battlefield, cyclists enjoy historic sites and scenic routes. The Back Roads Century offers 100, 64, 47 and 52, 25 and 29 mile rides as well as group social events.

Nokesville. The annual Nokesville Picnic in the Park Ride is typically held in May. This ride is open to all members & their family & friends and is geared toward bringing cyclists of all skill levels together and to welcome new cyclists to PPTC! This classic ride takes you through the rolling Virginia rural country-side and finishes with a picnic at a local park! It includes “casual” rides of 10 and 18 miles—targeted for new cyclists and for families and longer route options of 30, 42, and 53 miles.

Twister Century, Fall 2022

Join us in Northern Maryland (and Pennsylvania if you're twisting with us) for this superb Fall Century event. Riders who choose to complete a half, metric, or full century will be treated to a rolling course, which starts from the Walkersville Fire Department Activity Hall and heads up to Memorial Park in Taneytown. From Memorial Park, cyclists can choose to Twist It Up, and either head back to Walkersville to complete a half century, take one of the loops heading north from the park to complete a metric century or 75 miles, or if you're feeling intrepid, do both extra loops for a full century! Feeling like you want to ramble and enjoy the scenery a bit more, including our region's covered bridges and quiet country roads? Start your day at Memorial Park and enjoy any combination of the loops for a 25 or 38 mile ride!

Once you're done Twisting, join us for a post-ride party back at the Activity Hall in Walkersville. Food and refreshments will be provided, but we're counting on you to bring the stories of your adventure today.
